Abstract

Design and construction of Gotvand Olya dam (in Khoozestan-Southwest of Iran) and its side grouting galleries and water carrier’s tunnel associated with hydraulic power plants, include construction of a 12km tunnel by drilling and blasting techniques. Optimization of such extent operations is therefore necessary to reduce cost. In this article, blasting patterns for permanent access tunnel of the grouting gallery, at the right hand side of the dam, 153 contour line, is investigated using value engineering. Two blasting patterns have been presented for both wet and dry conditions, resulting respectively in 19.32% and 8.83% cost reduction per cubic meter drilling.
